After spending more than three decades skiing in the Swiss Alps and Aspen, I’ve seen the evolution of ski trends firsthand. This season, I’ve noticed a few trends that are truly making a statement on the slopes.
Origins of Perfect Moment
Starting off with a bit of history, Perfect Moment, a renowned skiwear brand, is known for its classic approach to winter apparel. The brand was born from the world of extreme sports, with its original founder, Thierry Donard, creating his cult extreme-sports documentaries around top-tier freeriders.
Quote from Jane Gottschalk, Founder of Perfect Moment
“If a skier is at the peak of a mountain or a surfer is facing the vast wall of waves at Nazaré and the conditions are perfect for them to perform at their best, that’s a perfect moment.”
International Skiing Influence on Design
Growing up skiing across the globe has a significant influence on the design. The brand’s DNA comprises motifs of the Northern Star and polar bear, inherited from Thierry’s filming experiences in Greenland.
Quote from Jane Gottschalk, Founder of Perfect Moment
“Skiing worldwide inspires designs as well as functionality, which is vital for the sport. Places like Gstaad specifically inspire through the old-school European glamour.”
Ski Aesthetic
When it comes to ski aesthetics, Jane Gottschalk, the founder of Perfect Moment, prefers a monochromatic style, often sporting all black or all white outfits.
Trend 1: Metallic
One of the biggest trends this season is metallic. It’s an ideal choice for those looking to make a statement.
Trend 2: Monochromatic
Monochromatic skiwear is timeless. It draws inspiration from Jackie O’s signature style and is a great option when investing in luxury skiwear.
Trend 3: Slimline & Belt Bags
Slimline ski suits accompanied with belt bags and fanny packs are a trend that Perfect Moment kick-started back in 2010.
Trend 4: From the City to the Slopes
People now want to look stylish both on and off the slopes. This has led to the growth of the ‘city-to-slopes’ trend.
Trend 5: Think Pink
Pink is a dominant color this season. Gottschalk expects this trend to continue into the next season as well.
Trend 6: Denim Everywhere
Denim is always a focus for Gottschalk. The denim trend started with Perfect Moment’s collaboration with DL1961 winter 2022.
